About Brett

Brett Anne VanCott is a licensed Acupuncturist who has practiced in Maine for the past 10 years. In 1997, she earned a Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from Five Branches Institute of TCM located in Santa Cruz, California. She is a nationally board certified Diplomate in Oriental Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). She is licensed to practice acupuncture in the State of Maine. Brett has medical staff priveleges at Maine General Hospital which allows her to perform acupuncture on patients at all of the Maine General Hospital campuses.

The style of acupuncture that Brett uses is considered Traditional Chinese Medicine. As such, Chinese Herbal Medicine is an integral part of treatment. The State of Maine requires special licensure to prescribe and formulate custom herbal formulas. Brett holds this license in addition to her acupuncture license in Maine.

Brett has extensively studied German Auricular Medicine, which is a sophisticated system of ear acupuncture that utilizes the knowledge that the entire body, including cranial nerves, glands, and each of the part of the spine, is mapped out on the ear.

Before coming to Maine, Brett practiced in Boulder, Colorado and taught at the Southwest Acupuncture College. In addition, while in Colorado, she apprenticed with Jake Fratkin, a senior acupuncturist who writes and teaches nationally.

Brett is committed to providing high quality health care to every patient. She believes that each individual has within themselves the power to heal. Her practice is dedicated to being part of each patient’s healing journey.
